Mahaicony Technical and Vocational Training Centre (MTVTC)
At MTVTC we pride ourselves in knowing that we are contributing to the development of a skilled workforce, equipping our trainees with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed in industries today. Young adults and early school leavers are given a second chance to gain employment and make meaningful contributions to their communities and the world at large.
Our courses are designed using updated occupational Competency Standards for Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQ) and are delivered using Competency-Based Education.
What is Competency-Based Education?
Competency-Based Education is an approach to teaching and learning that is learner focused. It places emphases on meeting students where they are in their educational journey and provides a more personalized path to completion. This learning method allows for a student to learn each skill at their own pace, practicing and refining challenging units as much as they need and moving rapidly through other skills to which they are more adept. In doing so CBE focuses on the learners’ ability to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and attitude required to perform a specific task.
Competence is the Ability to clearly and transparently demonstrate the Knowledge, Skill, and Attitude required to perform a specific task, through real-life evidence and projects.
